How Unexpected Quality and Customer Service Allows Eagle Builders to Add New Value to Their Clients

March 30, 2020 by Larry Bernstein

This is an age of specialization. Great and deep knowledge is appreciated and valued. Eagle Builders understands this market requirement as it’s been the key to the company’s success.

Since its founding in 2000, Eagle Builders has become Western Canada’s leading precast concrete contractor. It’s been recognized as an industry trendsetter known for fostering innovation and emerging technologies.

Growing Pains

Like all young businesses, Eagle Builders had its share of growing pains. The owners, Kevin Kooiker, Craig Haan, and Dennis Haan, had to work extremely hard to keep the business afloat. With time, however, the workload became steadier.

And what helped them through the challenging early days?

The company gained customers as people learned that Eagle Builders was constructing quality concrete structures offering service that was above anything experienced. This dedication to quality and service is exactly what led to Eagle Builders’ rapid growth and success.

As the company grew, it also added to its repertoire. Today, Eagle Builders works on multiple building types: commercial, industrial, agricultural, infrastructure, residential, and institutional.

In addition, they are always there for their clients—from the beginning of a construction project to the very end. While Eagle Builders started out as a manufacturer, it now offers full turn-key solutions as they specialize in the design, engineering, fabrication, and building of precast concrete structures.

Paper Processes Not Cutting It

The company succeeded in streamlining the entire process so that everything is dealt with under one roof. This diminishes risk for clients by establishing cost and timeline certainty very early on. It also allows the company to add value to their clients.

“We needed a system to take information, organize it, and share it with the guys and girls in the field, so they could have the most recent information in real-time.”

– Jesse Hawiuk

Naturally, as Eagle Builders has grown and expanded into new markets, they’ve started to have more information and data to manage and organize. In order to manage the overflow of information, the company used traditional programs, such as Excel, PDFs, and email.

However, the system was just not cutting it. Time was being wasted and decision making, which required all the most up-to-date information, was more challenging. It was impossible to continue serving customers in the best possible way.

And so, Eagle Builders knew a change was required.

“We needed a system to take information, organize it, and share it with the guys and girls in the field, so they could have the most recent information in real-time,” says Jesse Hawiuk, a Business Development Manager for Eagles Builders.

And they turned to Procore.

Real-Time Collaboration a Game Changer

While Eagle Builders prides itself on working hard, working smart is just as important and allows the company to offer great service to its customers.

Consider, before Eagle Builders turned to Procore, questions would get asked and responses would be missed. Determining which set of drawings, along with critical notes and information, was the most up to date often turned out to be a challenge. Multiple calls had to be made to confirm information, which was both time-consuming and frustrating.

“Procore allows us to have consistent information go across all levels in real-time,” explains Hawiuk.

And that’s a real game-changer. Questions get asked and answered in a timely manner—an improvement in organization and communication.

Because Eagle Builders is engaged in multiple stages of the construction process, getting information to the right departments can be a challenge. However, Procore has helped facilitate organization by making sure information gets to the right source.

“They’ve done a good job to accommodate our process and unique way of construction, and tie all of the different assets of our company into one,” says Hawiuk. “Procore has streamlined our system of communication.”

Communication Made Easy

Procore also helps Eagle Builders maximize the use of their personnel.

“This allows us to put people in the right places and remove responsibility from others who were getting bogged down with work,” Hawiuk explains,.

Communicating changes has become much smoother and quicker. There are times when a decision about a change to the plans is made on-site. This change could require an engineer’s review, and ensuring everyone was notified of the review used to be challenging. With Procore, that’s no longer the case. It’s enough to simply tag those who need to know, and everyone gets notified. It’s possible to even make a note when the review is needed. This helps prevent potential issues later in the process, which could mean a loss of time and money.

“Procore has streamlined our system of communication.”

– Jesse Hawiuk

With Procore’s software helping Eagle Builders offer clear, quick communication, the leading precast concrete contractor can continue to act upon its great and deep knowledge. It can offer excellent customer service by being able to make crucial decisions in a timely manner.
