How Winning an Award Can Win You Business

November 12, 2018 by Kylie Scott

Winning an industry award can present some really great marketing opportunities for your business. Being recognised for a service or product you provided can be a talking piece for years to come.

Becoming a finalist will also result in some really great marketing opportunities. As a winner, or finalist, you are often supplied with a logo for use on promotional material which showcases your win. There will be plenty of news articles talking about the awards, and lets not forget the photos you can share from the presentation event. All of these things can be featured on social media and attract lots of positive attention for your business. You will become an 'Award Winning Business' with a competitive edge.

But it's not only about showcasing your skills. Being recognised as an Employer of Choice can have substantial benefits too. Many people looking for work will consider which employer has the best benefits or positive work environment. This type of award can go a long way when it comes to recruiting key personnel. Even if you don’t win, the fact you’re among the top players in your industry is enough to put you in front of high-quality candidates.

It's not only about showcasing your skills. Being recognised as an Employer of Choice can have substantial benefits too.

This year, Buildcorp was recognised as an Employer of Choice at the Australian Business Awards.  This particular award recognises workplaces that maximise the potential of their workforce through effective recruitment, engagement and retention.

Looking more closely at Iindustry specific awards, Multiplex recently won the 2018 Australian Construction Achievement Award for their work at Optus Stadium. Some refer to this as the Australian construction industry’s highest honour.

Multiplex’s involvement in the Optus Stadium project saw more than 150 subcontractors, consultants and suppliers contracted, with a workforce reaching over 1350 at some points. More than 4.2 million man-hours were worked, with no significant injuries and the project was completed three weeks ahead of schedule in November 2017. Now that's an impressive outcome.

The Australian Construction Achievement Award is presented by Australian Constructors Association and Engineers Australia and brings together the best projects, delivered by Australia’s best construction companies.

CPB Contractors have had an amazing year with the team receiving more than one award. They took out the Commercial Subcontractor of the year 2018 for their part in the Northern Beaches Hospital at Frenchs Forest. CPB Contractors were awarded the contract to design and build a modern nine-storey hospital that contains 488 beds, 1,400 car park spaces and a helipad.

In September, the Australian Institute of Building announced the winners for the National Professional Excellence in Building Awards for 2018 and Simon Rua of CPB Contractors Pty Ltd was awarded Professional Excellence in the category of Commercial Construction – $25 Million to $100 Million. This was for the National Football Stadium project in Queensland.

It was also an amazing year for Stevens Construction who were named Contractor of the Year for the 8th Year running.  The team at Stevens Construction took home four industry awards for Construction Excellence at the Lee Building Industry Association Awards event this month. These included best restaurant (Marlins Plaza), best renovation (Specialized Veterinary Services) and best healthcare (Lee Health medical office building.) According to Jodi Huntoon, Marketing Manager at Stevens Construction, the Company has earned 50 Lee Building Industry Association Awards since 2006.

These prestigious awards were established to promote high standards of workplace health and safety and return to work outcomes in workplaces around NSW.

In other recent news, it was announced just last week, that Richard Crookes Construction received a total of six awards at the 2018 NSW Master Builders Association ‘Excellence in Construction’ Awards.

Another notable award was achieved by Richard Crookes Constructions' Digital Design Manager, Tyrone Padayachee, who was awarded the ‘Excellence in Advanced BIM Implementation’. This was part of the 2018 APAC Oracle Aconex Connect Awards.

There are few options already open for next year which are worth taking a look at, such as the Master Builders Association Awards which features an array of categories to consider. Find out more here.

You can also look at the SafeWork NSW Awards which are now in their 15th year. These prestigious awards were established to promote high standards of workplace health and safety and return to work outcomes in workplaces around NSW.
