Customer Story

Reducing rework and winning more business using a single platform

RDP Electric uses Procore to keep drawings current, help to reduce costly mistakes, and simplify the path from estimate to budget

The Challenge

Before Procore, RDP Electric managed its multifamily projects through spreadsheets, emails, shared drives and printed drawings. Field crews often worked from outdated information, leading to hours of rework and hundreds of feet of wasted wire and materials. With 15–20 active projects at any time and only 80 employees, the company needed a centralized system to connect the office and field, keep drawings current and help to reduce costly errors.

The Solution

RDP Electric adopted Procore to bring drawings, RFIs, submittals, daily logs and documentation into one platform. With foremen using iPads in the field, updates are instant, standardized and current. The company also uses Procore to streamline estimating and budgeting, converting accepted bids into project budgets with a single click, helping RDP bid more efficiently and win more work.

Reducing rework through real-time drawings

When Senior Project Manager Lorena Martinez joined RDP Electric six years ago, the company was still managing fast-moving multifamily projects with spreadsheets, emails and printed drawings. The result was frequent confusion that cost the company significant time and money. Missing or outdated drawings caused scheduling problems and significant rework — often requiring crews to cut and rerun wire or relocate installed boxes, wasting both labor hours and material.

“It was too easy for someone in the field to work off outdated drawings,” she said. “There was a lot of rework and a lot of wasted wire and material.”

That consistent pattern of avoidable rework was what finally pushed RDP to look for a centralized system that could keep everyone working from the same information.

After implementing Procore, the impact was immediate. On a recent 200-unit project, a foreman reviewing drawings in Procore noticed a new revision cloud indicating a rerouted circuit. Without that catch, the crew would have installed hundreds of feet of wire incorrectly. “Catching it on time saved hours of rework and hundreds of feet of wire,” Martinez said. “Without Procore, we wouldn’t have spotted it.”

Today, foremen pull up the latest drawings on their tablets, markup and share notes instantly and know they’re always working from the newest version. “Being able to access everything in one place avoids confusion and makes everyone more confident,” Martinez said.

Working smarter with better visibility

With Procore in place, RDP Electric gained instant access to every active project. “Visibility is day and night,” Martinez said. “We can log in and see if an RFI is pending or if an inspection needs attention. That transparency has made us more productive and more accountable.”

The same clarity transformed how the company plans and manages materials like copper wire. RDP tracks quantities directly in Procore’s daily logs and coordinates releases with suppliers based on real-time needs. “Procore has helped us manage quantities and track everything we’re using,” Martinez said. “It’s made a big difference.”

Procore has also streamlined the handoff from preconstruction to operations. “Being able to convert an estimate to a budget with one click makes the handoff a lot smoother,” Martinez said. “Everyone is working from the same number from day one.”

A stronger partner to general contractors

In addition to helping improve RDP’s internal workflows, Procore has strengthened how the company works with general contractors. Billing is cleaner, documentation is more consistent and communication moves faster. “It’s improved our communication and relationships with our GCs because they see we’re organized,” Martinez said. “It makes us look good — tech-driven and attentive to what they need.”

That kind of consistency really matters in multifamily construction, where schedules shift quickly and miscommunication can create costly delays. With Procore, RDP and its GC partners stay aligned throughout the job, reducing confusion and building trust.

Retaining good talent in a tough market

As an electrical specialty contractor, RDP competes for skilled labor in a tight market. Centralizing its workflows in Procore has helped attract and retain strong talent. “Our employees enjoy working with Procore because everything is in one place,” Martinez said. “They don’t have to jump between spreadsheets and drives.”

New hires are introduced to Procore on day one, helping create a unified, modern workflow across both field and office. “It’s changed the mentality of our field employees,” Martinez said. “They feel confident that everything is up to date. That makes their projects more successful.”

Emerging AI tools, such as Procore Assist, reinforce this shift by helping to reduce repetitive admin tasks. “Assist is going to help summarize RFIs and tackle repetitive work,” Martinez said. “It lets our team focus on building, not paperwork.”

Winning more business with modern processes

By using Procore to help reduce manual tasks — especially in estimating — the company can pursue more opportunities. “Our estimating team can submit more bids because they’re not reentering data,” Martinez said. “More bids mean more projects.”

General contractors notice the difference too. “Procore has helped us win more business because GCs can see that we’re tech-driven and organized,” Martinez said. “It builds confidence right from the bid stage.”
