Delivering a carbon-neutral vision for construction in the Middle East
ENGIE uses Procore to centralize operations, enabling faster decisions that support its 2045 net zero goals
The Challenge
Construction companies are under pressure to reduce carbon emissions from their projects, creating opportunities for organisations that can help make that happen. ENGIE is an international low-carbon-energy company with offices in Dubai and that has an ambitious 2045 net zero target. The company is committed to decarbonising the construction industry across the Middle East, supporting the region’s construction sector as it moves toward a carbon-neutral future.
To achieve this, ENGIE works closely with partners who share the ambition of reducing emissions — whether through energy optimisation, digital efficiency tools, low-carbon energy sources, or sustainable infrastructure design. By combining global expertise with local collaboration, ENGIE enables construction firms to meet its sustainability targets without compromising on performance or scale.
The Solution
To help deliver its sustainability goals, ENGIE engaged Procore as a technology platform partner to help its teams to optimise project management. The strength of Procore is the way in which it unifies operations and delivers high-quality information to leaders, both on site and in the office. Collaboration is easier using Procore and information is available in real time. This allows ENGIE’s teams to make decisions without spending time travelling from one location to another to get approvals. Information is always available and discussions all take place on the platform.
The Results
- 2 days to start and finish inspections, compared to 7 days previously
- Submittal times reduced from 5 days to 1 day using Procore
- Streamlined document management saves 1 full-time employee
“Every week, we make a site visit and look at how our work is changing things. We need the right tools to realise our vision and Procore is one of the tools that lets us make an impact.”

More efficient meetings and document management
Procore helps ENGIE centralise project information and ensures that everyone has the same view of the most recent data and documents. The Procore Meetings tool is central to this streamlined approach. “We have many meetings and collaborations across our projects, focusing on areas such as quality, construction and management,” says Mohamed Swydan, ENGIE’s Head of Projects Executions – GCC. “Agreements made during meetings need formal documented approval. Procore solves this. We jointly write an agenda so that we are clear and prepared. The minutes are written in Meetings and shared with one click.”
Minutes from previous meetings are also available through the Procore app. At the end of the project, the team has a rich history of data that can be referred to at any time in the event of written claims by the contractor, client or another partner.
The results of using Procore have been significant in streamlining operations for ENGIE. For example, Swydan used to have a dedicated document controller to manage document submission and transmittals and other administrative tasks across multiple projects. Using Procore Document Management has saved the document controller around 95% of her time, enabling her to do higher-value work.

Streamlined submittals and inspections
Procore is also used to centralise and accelerate critical processes such as submittals and inspections. By streamlining these processes through Procore, ENGIE has improved coordination, collaboration and data accessibility across its teams.
The Procore Submittals tool has helped significantly reduce the time from submission to final approval and archiving. Previously, a simple submittal could take up to five days to run its full course — now it can be done in a single day. Everyone can quickly get the right information at the right time.
Inspections are also faster. Swydan estimates that the week-long inspection process has been reduced to just two days, on average, using Procore. “We are not waiting on emails,” explains Swydan. “The inspection can be done on a mobile phone. You make your notes on site in the app, add photos and submit for acceptance or rejection.”
The inspection process also needed improvement because it was highly reliant on manual processes involving email. “There is so much data moving on large projects, and we wanted a way to move it efficiently, securely and accurately,” says Swydan. “Procore connects everyone to a single source of truth.”

A technology partner that helps ENGIE have an impact on the world
ENGIE faces many challenges as it follows its goal to become a champion of zero-carbon energy, not least being the need to balance its commitment to renewable energy with the ongoing need for traditional fuels. Moving away from a reliance on fossil fuels and towards a vision of greener energy presents a complex operational and strategic challenge that requires the right people, technology and processes.
Swydan’s team constantly challenges itself. “We have a vision: to make an impact on the world,” he says. “Every week, we make a site visit and look at how our work is changing things. We need the right tools to realise our vision and Procore is one of the tools that lets us make an impact.”
