Utech creates new efficiencies and a smarter way of building

The Challenge

Before implementing Procore, Utech relied on various specialised software products, hardcopies, local storage solutions, scanning and emails, all creating inconsistent data siloes. This made locating and managing business information time-consuming and costly. With each project manager and team using their own system and processes, there was a lack of visibility and wasted productivity when chasing deliverables. Information was being lost, and standard processes across the business were non-existent. Utech required a better-unified workflow for construction management to realise its strategic plans and goals.

Following an open review of several cloud-based construction project management and collaboration solutions, Utech selected Procore’s centralised platform. Procore Project Management and Quality & Safety were implemented at the beginning of 2021, describing it as “multiple software products in one solution”. Procore’s centralised and highly intuitive platform would provide information and tools to the Utech team via mobile devices, streamlining faster decision-making and minimising time off the tools.

The Solution

Utech now trusts Procore as its core construction management platform for 100 per cent of its workflow and site team collaboration. Project teams have access to up-to-date information in a standardised format, meaning they can now access and create information, and generate reports faster than ever.

“There are two primary areas that Procore has made an impact for us – and both relate to how the industry perceives us. We believe the transparency and workflows in Procore will drive our future growth,” explained Ryan.

For Utech, its reputation with its clients is better than ever. One example is how they have customised Procore tools for quality assurance documentation, generating information such as drawings, tables and forms from mobile devices. Procore exports this information in clear and professional reports for submission, improving construction and payment outcomes.

When it comes to industry accreditation, the Procore platform has played an essential role in Utech attaining ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

“Procore was essential for us in achieving and maintaining several certifications, including TAO, formally AEO (Authorised Engineering Organisation) accreditation required for work with Transport NSW,” he said.

Procore is multi-faceted, allowing us to work at the same level or even higher than our peers. This significant improvement in our operations has built on our reputation as having premium construction capabilities. It’s lifted our brand and the business as a whole.

Building a better future

One of the major challenges for any organisation today is driving efficiencies and building an environment that can capitalise on ongoing improvements. For Utech, they believe that Procore is 'priceless'.

“From a leadership and operations standpoint, Procore is invaluable for giving us the visibility we need in our operations. We can see it, report on it and drill down into issues in real-time. We’ve noticed that regular reporting maintains everyone’s engagement with Procore and quality assurance standards,” Ryan said.

Implementing Procore means Utech has transformed its professionalism and competency benchmarks, helping to create new revenue streams. Professionalising its operations and gaining accreditations has led to an increase in tier one and two building clients and opened the door for government work.

According to Ryan, Procore has “easily more than paid for itself with our new productivity outcomes”. He believes the Procore platform's value-add to the business is worth the investment.

"We have been able to future-proof the business by streamlining productivity across our project managers, administrators, and site managers. This is important in an environment where we face unplanned and unforeseen external impacts – whether health or weather-related. This offsets our operating costs and combining this with the reputational benefits of using Procore, puts us in a strong position for the future."
