Supporting rapid growth with construction technology

Watch Video

The Challenge

When Matheson began experiencing rapid growth, the team realized they needed a construction management solution to help them scale. They wanted a solution that not only provided greater consistency but also offered an integration with its accounting software, Viewpoint.

The Solution

With Procore, Matheson had one system that standardized processes. Plus, with Procore’s Viewpoint integration, teams had greater insight into project financial data, helping them make more informed decisions and supporting the company’s continued growth.

We were looking for a true partner, not just a software provider, that would help us. It wasn’t going to be a one-year kind of solution. [...] And we needed a partner that we could trust that was innovative, constantly improving, and could provide us with the right amount of service.

Neil Banerjee

Senior Vice President of Operations

The Story

When Senior Vice President of Operations Neil Banerjee joined Matheson Constructors in 2015, the company only had 25 people. "Now we have over 100 staff and a really solid client base," he smiles.

Admittedly, not all contractors see this kind of growth. But Banerjee largely attributes the company’s success to its commitment to enhancing its processes—leading to greater efficiency, quality, and client satisfaction.

"Most of our work is repeat clients and referrals, so coming out of a job with a positive feeling is really one of our primary objectives," he notes.

When Matheson first started experiencing this rapid growth, it quickly realized it needed a construction management solution. For one, project managers and superintendents often had their own way of managing projects, and they wanted to create greater consistency across projects and teams. Additionally, they used Viewpoint for accounting and wanted to find a construction management solution that offered an integration.

"We were looking for a true partner, not just a software provider, that would help us. It wasn’t going to be a one-year kind of solution. This was something we were going to be investing in— building our operations around—and we needed a partner that we could trust that was innovative, constantly improving, and could provide us with the right amount of service. We wanted a solution our staff could easily pick up and learn."

He continues, "We wanted to make sure that our investment was with a company that aligned with our values—a successful company we wanted to be associated with and could help us elevate our game and be more successful. We’ve spent a lot of time and energy in the last few years building the infrastructure to allow us to grow. The sky’s the limit for our growth, but more importantly, that growth will be sustainable and manageable with Procore."

Not only does Matheson now have a centralized location for all project data, but they also have accurate monthly forecasts with the Viewpoint integration. As a result, the executive team has greater insight into cash flow, profitability, and profit margins. With dashboards and key performance indicators, they can quickly identify any issues and make better data-driven decisions to ensure project stay on track.

Banerjee also notes that with workflows standardized across projects and teams, they have also been able to boost communication and consistency—ultimately enhancing the quality of service to clients.

Looking forward, Banerjee says he’s excited about what the future holds for the company and his team. "I’m looking forward to not only growing the company but also growing our culture and our staff," he says. "Giving our staff the tools they need to be successful is equally as important for me. I want to see the company do well, I want to see us build great projects and great buildings, but I also want us to build great people."
