What it is: A set of Workflows updates built to keep approvals moving and every decision accountable. Step Override arrives on both web and mobile, letting authorized users advance a stalled workflow with a required reason and a fully attributed history entry. New granular permissions let admins designate exactly who can return a workflow to a prior step or restart it — without granting the full Workflow Manager role. And two upgrade-path updates round it out: respond to existing legacy workflows directly in the new Workflows side panel, and upgrade a tool to New Workflows yourself, on your own timeline, with a built-in readiness check. Who it's for: Workflow admins and company or project admins who manage approval processes — and the project teams in the office and the field who respond to workflows every day.
Why it matters: Stalled approvals stall projects. When an assignee is unavailable, a step was approved prematurely, or a decision-maker is on site without a laptop, work sits still. These updates keep approvals moving: unblock a step from the field with full accountability, grant exactly the lifecycle control each user needs, and tailor a workflow to an individual item without touching the template. Every override and change is logged and attributed, so you keep a clear audit trail while cutting turnaround time. And with legacy workflows now living in the same side panel, you can move to New Workflows without restarting in-flight work or losing history.
How to get started: All updates are generally available October 13 (Step Override on mobile rolls out October 6–13). Enable Step Override per tool in Workflow Settings and grant the permission to the right roles. Assign the new Return to Prior Step and Restart Workflow permissions in your permission templates. Item-level configuration appears on tools that have adopted it, starting with Observations. To upgrade to New Workflows, open the tool's Workflow settings and use the upgrade control — the readiness check confirms every project is set before you commit.
