The top home builders in Australia were compiled by HIA’s housing report, just before COVID hit. Since then, one major player has called in the liquidators, but the rest have stayed relatively buoyant, thanks in part to HomeBuilder. The building industry is mostly made up of many small businesses, here are the top ten according to the number of builds over the 2019/2020 financial year.
Metricon has topped the HIA list for the past five years, slowly moving up the list from number 63 back in 1993/94. Metricon accounts for just 2.5 per cent of all new homes built in Australia, building in Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia. They offer home designs and home and land packages of varying styles and budgets.
Hutchinson builders have been in the family for over five generations. That’s over 100 years. Their team of 1,500 people have offices across the country, tapping into local communities.
“Hutchies builds around 4,000 homes across Australia annually. This depth of experience provides our clients unequalled access to realistic cost and programming data, making us an attractive construction partner on residential developments of all scales. We do everything from individual homes right up to multi-towers and master planned communities,” says Paul David, Head of New Business.
Multiplex has been building offices, residential, retail, large scale health and entertainment and hotel precincts since 1962. Working across seven countries with over 4000 people, they are truly a global team. They recently announced its $2 billion Brookfield Place development in Wynyard in the Sydney CBD reached practical completion after a long nine years in the making.
