Long lead item
An ordered piece of material or equipment that has an extended lead time.
Long lead items are components or materials with extended delivery times that require early identification and ordering. Examples can include bespoke products such as fabricated components, specialist equipment such as piling rigs, or specialty building materials that must be transported overseas. Often procured earlier in a process to ensure timely installation. Proper management ensures these items are available when needed, preventing delays and disruptions in the construction process.
