The Challenge

JWLand operates head contractor and developer functions nationally. Considering this, process consistency is paramount to the business and not something that could be achieved by relying on paper-based systems. To ensure clear outcomes across the 500+ dwellings currently under construction nationwide, the teams needed a unified platform solution for better communication, document management and quality assurance.

The Solution

JWLand needed a robust, adaptive system to harness the power of its current processes while enhancing them through digitisation. They selected Procore Project Management, Quality & Safety and Project Financials. They also selected 1Breadcrumb to integrate seamlessly with Procore's quality and safety tools to address the need for streamlined inductions and document storage.

Now, all safety and induction documentation can be accessed in real-time by site workers who then create digital wallets of permits and tickets.

Adapting to a Changing Construction Landscape

One of the tools that JWLand relies on most is Procore’s Action Plans for quality inspections, with a strong focus on Inspection Test Plans (ITPs). By using Action Plans with documents from external subcontractors, they have increased accountability and visibility across projects. Notably, teams can place hold points within individual Action Plans to block progression until specific criteria are met. This prevents additional work from progressing until all stakeholders have signed off, which reduces the risk of not meeting quality standards.

Using the Procore and 1Breadcrumb integrated solution reporting is made more accurate and more efficient. Monthly reports are generated automatically using accurate data from both platforms. ISO and federal safety certification processes are also made easier through access to data and reporting.

Enhancing Current Processes

Before using Procore, JWLand completed all inspections in hard copy, requiring printed documents to be ticked off, scanned, and filed. Using Procore and 1Breadcrumb did not change the inspections themselves but rather empowered Don and his team to conduct their industry-leading practices more efficiently.

The introduction of Procore’s Inspections tool has streamlined and standardised JWLand’s existing processes. JWLand uses the Observations tool for defecting and issue tracking, allowing all team members to issue observations, allocate responsibilities, set timeframes, and send them to subcontractors. This tool offers trackability and ensures that nothing is overlooked.

Observations are used at the end of the week as an overview of the entire subcontractor workforce across JWLand projects the team can see what has and has not been completed and plan accordingly.
