Prevent Outdated Document Revisions in Workflows

Feature Release28 Apr 2026

Launching May 29. Procore’s Construction Documents now features a project-level guardrail that prevents new document revisions from entering a workflow if an older revision of the same document is still under review. When users submit documents—individually or in bulk—the system automatically checks for revision conflicts. If a conflict is detected (for example, submitting Revision 2 while Revision 1 is still active), the conflicting documents are clearly flagged, and users are presented with guided options to resolve each issue based on their permissions. Non-conflicting documents move forward in the workflow immediately, ensuring review teams can keep projects progressing without unnecessary delays.

This enhancement addresses common pain points such as reviewer confusion, wasted effort on outdated documents, and the risk of approving obsolete designs. By surfacing conflicts at the point of submission and allowing project admins to enforce consistent revision rules, this feature streamlines document control, reduces administrative burden, and ensures that only the most current documents are reviewed and approved. Ultimately, teams gain greater confidence, control, and auditability over their document workflows—minimizing rework and reducing project risk.

This feature is configurable at the project level and applies only to workflow submissions; uploading new revisions outside of a workflow remains unaffected.
