On 17 August 2026, the NSW Government released a new policy for data centres. Backed by fresh guidelines, energy reforms, and a review of water pricing, it is designed to fast-track the projects that meet it and slow down the ones that don't.

Projects that prove they meet the new energy and water efficiency targets, manage their community impact, and back their numbers with evidence can move through approvals in as little as 75 days.
