Groundbreak 2018: A Look Inside Construction Financials

November 14, 2018 by Kristine Miller

An estimated 3,000 construction professionals gathered Nov. 13 to 15 at the Austin Convention Center, for one of the industry’s largest construction technology summits: Procore’s annual Groundbreak conference, offered thought-provoking educational opportunities complete with live sessions, innovation labs, and networking opportunities. Also featured were keynotes from Nextflix co-founder Marc Randolph and legendary quarterback Peyton Manning.

In the novice session, Procore’s Strategic Product Consultant Tom Jodeit discussed Procore’s Budget tool and gave an overview of features, best practices, and how to create a budget within the platform. He explained how real-time data consolidated into one location, combined with Procore’s reporting and exporting functionalities, can provide powerful insight for construction financial managers. Procore’s platform offers historical views using Snapshots, grouping and filtering, and custom views for deeper analysis.

Both the intermediate and advanced sessions took an in-depth look at Procore’s budgeting, forecasting, and reporting features. The intermediate session, led by Strategic Product Consultants Blake Johnson and Jordan Chacon, detailed how to configure a budget view in Procore.

Procore’s configurable dashboards help companies use data to better understand project health and manage profit.

They explained how real-time data helps construction financial managers better track and forecast potential job costs and revenue. Additionally, they provided a detailed overview of how Procore’s configurable dashboards help companies use data to better understand project health and manage profit. The subsequent advanced session was led by Strategic Product Consultant Manager Robin Delaney and provided further training on forecasting general conditions and forecasting change events.

Groundbreak offered 80 sessions on topics including leadership, industry trends, diversity/inclusion, and integrations. It also offered product-specific training including construction financials sessions (novice, intermediate, and advanced), led by Procore product experts, covering everything from budget basics to in-depth forecasting.
