Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Forecasts 11% Decline in UK Construction Workforce by 2021

According to the 2020 CITB Strategic Plan, the construction industry in the UK is expected to lose nearly 300,000 workers by 2021 as a result of COVID-19. The workforce is unlikely to recover before 2025 however, according to CITB Chief Executive Sarah Beale, “The recovery presents construction with big challenges but also major opportunities to do things differently and bring a wider range of new workers into the industry.”

Association of Equipment Distributors (AED) 2020 Report to Offer Special Insight into the Future of the Industry

The AED’s 2020 Cost of Doing Business Report and Annual Rental Report, which will be released later this fall, examines vital management practices and provides granular benchmarking data on industry standards. According to one of the report’s key authors Richard Stewart, the results will help contractors and industry experts “understand the business at a level never seen before”.

$2.27B San Diego Airport Contract Awarded to Turner-Flatiron JV

It was recently announced that the new San Diego International Airport terminal project was awarded to contracting giants Turner Construction and Flatiron Construction. Construction is expected to begin in late 2021; the 1.2 million-square-foot effort will replace 30 gates, with 19 new gates scheduled to open in 2025 and the other 11 gates in 2027.
